More WordPress 6.4 Problems – v6.4.1 fix released, but there’s a catch

WordPress support

Just to add to the chaos caused by the v.6/4 release of WordPress on 7 November, further problems have emerged.

There is a critical problem for sites on servers running CURL v.7.29.0 (and possibly other versions). CURL is a crucial tool that allows servers to pull content from other locations.

An emergency fix was quickly released – WordPress v6.4.1.

The gotcha in this instance is that, if your server is affected, WordPress can’t use CURL to load updates, so you are stuck with the broken version unless you or your maintainer is able to apply an update manually.

This episode illustrates once again the importance of careful management of even seemingly routine updates of WordPress, themes, and plugins. And, of course, regular and frequent backups are your friend in case of disaster.
